Child Counselling Sunshine Coast
Helping children understand big emotions through connection, play and evidence-based counselling.
Working Together with Parents
Parents are an important part of the counselling journey.
Throughout therapy, we’ll work alongside you to better understand your child’s needs while providing practical strategies that can be used at home.
By supporting both the child and their caregivers, we aim to create lasting positive change that extends beyond the therapy room.
Sand Tray Therapy, Play Therapy and Psychotherapy for Children across the Sunshine Coast
When children are struggling emotionally, they often don’t have the words to explain what they’re feeling. Instead, those emotions can show up through behaviour, worries, withdrawal, anger or challenges at school.
At My Wellness Mindset, we provide child counselling in a safe, supportive environment where children can explore their thoughts and feelings in ways that feel natural to them. Using evidence-based approaches including Play Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy, we help children build emotional resilience, confidence and healthy coping skills.
Our experienced therapists work closely with both children and parents, creating a collaborative approach that supports your child’s wellbeing at home, school and beyond.
Is Your Child Finding Things Difficult?
Every child experiences challenges differently.
Your child may benefit from counselling if they are:
Frequently anxious or worried
Having emotional outbursts or meltdowns
Struggling with friendships
Finding it difficult to regulate emotions
Avoiding school or experiencing school anxiety
Showing changes in behaviour or mood
Struggling after family separation or loss
Lacking confidence or self-esteem
Having difficulty adjusting to change
Finding it hard to express their feelings
Seeking support early can help children develop lifelong emotional skills before small struggles become bigger challenges.

General emotional wellbeing
Every child is unique, and therapy is tailored to meet their individual needs.
Play Therapy
Children naturally communicate through play.
Rather than expecting children to sit and talk about difficult emotions, Play Therapy allows them to express themselves through activities that feel safe, engaging and developmentally appropriate.
Through play, children can:
Explore emotions
Build confidence
Develop problem-solving skills
Process difficult experiences
Improve emotional regulation
Strengthen social skills
Play becomes the child’s language, allowing the therapist to better understand their emotional world while helping them develop healthy coping strategies.
Sand Tray Therapy
Sand Tray Therapy provides children with a creative, non-verbal way to express thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to put into words.
Using miniature figures, objects and a sand tray, children create scenes that represent their inner experiences.
This gentle, evidence-informed approach can be particularly helpful for children experiencing:
Anxiety
Trauma
Grief and loss
Behavioural challenges
Family changes
Emotional regulation difficulties
Sand Tray Therapy allows children to safely explore emotions while building insight, resilience and confidence.
