Why Try Couples Therapy?

Traditional Couples Therapy

The more common and well known form of couples therapy is through weekly or fortnightly sessions, where we explore the challenges you are facing in the relationship and work on building the skills to navigate these in a healthier way. 

 

What to expect in Couples Therapy

Prior to your first session you will complete an in-depth online assessment evaluating all aspects of your relationships strengths and weaknesses to jump start our therapy before you even walk in the doors! From there, we will have our initial session where I can gather your relationship history, discuss the challenges you are facing and the goals you have.

Next I have an individual session with each parter to gather personal history such as childhood, families, past relationships and individual goals for the future. This is an opportunity for me to understand the why behind your triggers and behavioural patters as they show up in the relationship. 

​

From there, we will begin our couples therapy journey with the results of your assessment which will highlight the key areas of strengths and difficulties.

 

You will also have access to an online library of  14 modules, 41 research-based exercises and 94 exclusive videos that will help you implement the tools and strategies we discuss in therapy. 

Couples Marathon 

This intensive, science-based approach is designed to help couples dive deep into their relationship dynamics over a focused two-day period. Guided by the renowned Gottman Method, we will help you work through traumas, rebuild trust, improve communication, and rediscover the love that brought you together.

Unlike traditional therapy, which unfolds gradually over time, Gottman Marathon Therapy condenses months of work into an immersive two-day experience. This method is ideal for couples seeking meaningful progress quickly—whether you’re facing serious challenges, navigating transitions, or simply striving to enhance your connection. 

​

The cost of your marathon includes the thorough pre-marathon assessment, 2, 30 minute individual sessions (via telehealth) 2 intensive days working on your relationship in a safe, calm, professional and private environment with the full attention of one of your highly trained and experienced clinicians, a toolkit full of resources and information to take home that assists you to continue to deepen your emotional connection and master the skills for constructively managing conflict.

Online Assessment

Developed from over 50 years of scientific research, you will complete an online assessment consisting of 337 questions about friendship, intimacy, emotions, conflict, values, and trust, as well as parenting, housework, finances, individual areas of concern, and more. The results of this assessment will help me build your personalised treatment plan moving forward.

Time to Marathon

Now time for the fun, 2 days of intensive therapy. Based on the information I have gathered on your relationship, I will build a fully personalised plan with interventions that will give you the opportunity to learn healthy communication, emotional regulation, process past hurt, improve connection & intimacy and SO much more! 

This will be held at my Clinic in Caloundra, or I can travel to you for an additional cost.

Individual Session

One you have completed your assessment, I will have a 30 minute Telehealth session with each partner individually. This gives me an opportunity to explore some of the findings in your assessment, and understand each partners perspective and goals moving forward. The purpose of this is for me to fast track the understanding of each partners history, triggers and traumas that may be showing up in the relationship.

Follow Up 

Relapse Prevention: You will complete four follow-up sessions after Marathon Therapy to help solidify the changes made in Marathon. These follow-up sessions are spaced out every three to six weeks based on your needs. Any sessions after the initial four are charged at the standard couples therapy rates.
